Let’s Talk: Using Social Media to Connect with Customers

Last week, we got to talking about social media.  Social media is an excellent way to enhance your Denver marketing plan, no matter what sort of business you have!  The main upshot of making use of social media tactics is that social media allows you to connect all of your online marketing outlets.  You can use Facebook or Twitter to drive blog traffic, send blog readers to your website, learn more about who your customers are and how to market to them…the possibilities are endless!  Today we want to focus on customers, and how you can use social media to learn more about and connect with your customers.  After all, a marketing plan isn’t much use without a customer base to target!

Use social media to get customer feedback about products

We are talking everything from blog comments and shares to Facebook “likes.”  It’s 2012, and chances are your customers are somewhere out there in the world wide web, and chances are that they are not afraid to share their opinion!  Whether customers remain anonymous or not, using social media to get customer feedback about products or services you offer is a great idea.  It’s fast, and oftentimes takes nothing more than a call-to-action (and sometimes doesn’t even require such).  Whether you prompt customers to give feedback directly on Facebook, or send them to a link on your website asking for short product ratings and reviews, social media can be the link between business and customer communication.

Gaining customer insight with social media

Social media is a great way to learn about customers: what they are reading, what they buy, where they go…you get the point.  Social media can help you better understand what kind of demographic is interested in your business, and can also give you a clue as to whether or not your target market is fraternizing with any of your competitors.  Learning about your customers through social media isn’t just about seeing what products your target market favors, either.  Gaining consumer insight fits into a much bigger picture, and allows you to consider how your business or service will add value to customers’ lives.

See who’s talking about you

With numerous websites available to monitor your brand name mentions, you can see who’s talking about you on every site from Twitter to Digg to Reddit to Pinterest!  You can see if your business is getting raves or complaints on a blog out there, and might find a few photographs of your product in use.  Reading what customers are saying about you can help you get feedback, and can even allow you to give your own responses.  For example, perhaps you find a string of negative blog articles about a certain product.  You may choose to respond with a comment about help always being available for customers via your website, or suggest that these customers try a slightly different product of yours, with which they may be more satisfied.  This is a great way to show customers that you care about their wants and needs!
