Signage produced for the offices of InVisM, Inc. The final printed sign was made up of two layers: a clear acrylic layer on which the background photo collage was printed, and a brushed metal center layer on which the lettering was printed. The center metal layer was adhered to the acrylic, and screw heads were added to the edges for effect.
Personal Project
We have always fascinated by Chinese cut-paper art. Because of this, we decided to make our own art piece in the cut-paper style, using Adobe Illustrator. In the center is a Chi-Rho symbol and a trinity symbol. The calligraphy is a paraphrase of John 1:14. The lanterns and knotting are common Han Chinese folk art forms, and the geometric patterns are reminiscient of several Chinese minority groups' traditional art forms.
Concordia Language Center is an English-teaching institute that had recently opened. They enlisted our help to create some newspaper advertising to promote their services. The local staff wrote the ad copy, then we came up with the design, produced the photography, and composited it all in Photoshop and InDesign.
Concordia English Center in Macau needed to recruit more American teachers to come and join their staff, so they enlisted us to produce a tri-fold brochure advertising their organization and the work that they do. We shot all the photography and produced all the graphics within the brochure, and laid it all out in InDesign.

Concordia University's Wind Ensemble recorded and produced their first album in the summer of 2005, and they hired us to design the packaging, including the cover design and the CD face design. We designed a cover illustration incorporating plant and vegetation forms with the form of a musical staff. The illustration is a hybrid of both traditional and digital media, involving pen & ink, watercolor, Photoshop collage, and Adobe Illustrator elements.

One of a small series of cards we produced for LCMS World Mission. This particular card was a thank-you card to give to World Mission's volunteer teachers at the end of their volunteering time. We kept the layout minimalistic, keeping the visual focus on the text, the brush painting and the calligraphy.

In 2005 LCMS World Mission hosted a summit in Hong Kong for all its workers in Asia, and they brought us on to do all the design work for the Summit. In addition to the official Summit identity mark, we were in charge of the visual design for every piece of printed material we produced, including this piece here: the cover graphic for the official Summit binder notebook. One of the design challenges was incorporating both the Summit logo and the Ablaze logo in a way that they didn't become competing centers of interest.
You can see some of the finished notebooks here.
Another design piece we produced for the 2005 Asia Ablaze Summit: a series of 8' by 4' banners for the conference stage.
Photos of the finished banners on the stage can be seen here, here and here.
One of several custom layouts for contract proposals that we designed while working at Norris Dullea (now Norris Design) — this proposal was for a contract to build a baseball park. Given the subject matter, we decided to design the whole layout in a "retro baseball" style. Photography courtesy of John Birkey.

A project from our student days: a poster for a production of the opera "Carmen." We produced the entire project, including concept, design, costuming and photography, and final compositing. As Carmen's story takes place in Spain, we incorporated many traditional Spanish-style patterns into the finished design.
